The 134.5-acre Edgewater Park is the westernmost park in the Cleveland Metroparks’ Lakefront Reservation. Located north of Cleveland Memorial Shoreway (U.S. Routes 6 and 20 and State Route 2), this site features upper and lower sections connected by the paved 17-mile Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway and a fitness course which extends eastward through the other Lakefront Reservation sites.

Edgewater’s upper, western section is partially on Cliff Drive and accessible from West Boulevard. The expansive, partially-shaded green space is primarily a picnic grounds with trails, and has a 0.46-mile bluff overlooking Lake Erie. This upper section is separated from the lower by a large sloping hill, popularly used for sledding during winter.

Edgewater’s lower, eastern section is accessible via an exit ramp off the Shoreway. The lower park includes a half-mile sand beach; the easternmost 900 feet of which are groomed, and 400-feet-wide. Two picnic shelters and a bathhouse are located between the beach and an expansive parking lot.

North of the parking lot, an open mowed grass field is used for, among other activities, flying kites. A second parking lot and a concession stand are closer to the shore. This area of Edgewater is protected from erosion by a 2,360-foot revetment/seawall which provides fishing access as does a 200-foot fishing pier. Combined, Edgewater includes nearly 6,000 feet of publicly accessible waterfront areas.

The disjoined eight-lane Edgewater Boat Ramp is located off Whiskey Island Drive just east of Edgewater Marina (see next site).

UPDATE: On June 6, 2013, Cleveland Metroparks assumed management of certain lakefront state park properties including this site. While the city of Cleveland continues to own the property, Cleveland Metroparks holds a 99-year lease to manage and enhance the park. Publications and electronic materials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and others may still reflect the state’s previous management of the property.
