The 102-acre Cleveland Metroparks Huntington Reservation straddles U.S. Route 6 (Lake Road) with the coastal access parking lot at the north terminus of Porter Creek Drive.

Stretching 0.4 miles, Huntington’s foot-friendly sand beach is one of Cuyahoga County’s most popular. The beach width varies between the five groins which extend up to 400 feet into Lake Erie. These structures help stabilize the shore and provide year-round fishing access.

The NOWcast system for predicting water quality, (see water quality monitoring in the introduction) was pioneered at Huntington Beach. The computer model’s accuracy has spurred researchers to start establishing NOWcast systems at five additional Ohio Lake Erie swimming beaches.

The beach is accessible via sets of stairs that traverse the steep bluff. At the reservation’s eastern end an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant parking lot and beach-access walkway built in 2006 was funded, in part, by an Ohio Coastal Management Program grant.

Picnic tables and grills are scattered throughout the upper park area which includes many amenities such as concessions and restrooms. A bluff-side trail connects to the all-purpose, 1-mile Porter Creek Trail which connects to the city of Bay Village’s bike trail. The reservation is home to three Cleveland Metroparks affiliates: Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, Huntington Playhouse and Baycrafters.

The Huntington Water Tower, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was used to pump water to irrigate vineyards.
