The 92-acre East Sandusky Bay MetroPark (ESB) is one of four neighboring parks owned by Erie MetroParks along U.S. Route 6 (Cleveland Road) between the cities of Huron and Sandusky. ESB is in the northwest portion of these park’s 1,300 coastal acres collectively managed as the East Sandusky Bay Preserve MetroParks.

The mouth of Plum Brook and its backwaters form the greater part of this preserve bordering East Sandusky Bay. A recent biological survey found more than 180 plant species at this site, including 50 native species that depend on wet or moist habitats for survival. ESB is a critical habitat for breeding and migrating birds and ducks, providing a stop to rest and refuel before crossing Lake Erie. The site has had 14 successful eagle nests during the last 18 years.

The mile-long natural surface trail leads from a paved parking area through woods and fields to the marsh. The half-mile East Bay Trail leads to an observation overlook and a trailhead for the East Sandusky Bay Water Trail. The preserve also features the Stockdale Arboretum and a picnic area. There are no onsite restrooms or drinking water.

ESB was formerly known as the Community Foundation Preserve at Eagle Point and includes the East Sandusky Bay MetroPark Extension, an area that was once the site of the Sandusky Drive-in Theatre. The theatre site is being reclaimed to a natural state. These lands were acquired in part with a grant from the Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program, which is administered by the ODNR Office of Coastal Management.
