The 640-acre Camp Perry Military Reservation is an Ohio National Guard Training Site for the Air National Guard’s 200th Red Horse Squadron and home to the NRA National Outdoor Rifle & Pistol Championships.

Camp Perry was selected as a military training site by an Ohio general during his 1905 hunting trip to area marshes. In September 1907, the first National Rifle Matches were hosted. By 1909, Camp Perry had evolved into one of the best equipped rifle and pistol ranges in the world. Over the years, Camp Perry has played a role in various wars and military efforts including both World Wars. The camp is named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the American Commander who defeated the British naval forces in 1813 in the Battle of Lake Erie.

Today, the annual national shooting matches are held for five weeks in July and August, attracting premier shooters from around the world. Spectators are welcome. The camp also serves local and federal law enforcement agencies, weekend range firing, civilian rifle teams and non-military agencies.

Available for public use, Camp Perry offers a swimming beach, fishing pier and restroom located near the Camp Perry Lodging & Conference Center facility on Lawrence Road. Camp Perry also boasts a museum, conference center, and self-guided tours by following signs posted throughout. Lodging, conference and banquet facilities are available for rent.

Camp Perry’s main entrance, Niagara Road, is the northern continuation of State Route 358 north of State Route 2. Photo identification is required at the gate to enter.
