The 2,202-acre Magee Marsh State Wildlife Area encompasses some of Ohio’s finest remaining wetlands. Historically, the marsh was part of the Great Black Swamp. Today, Magee is a haven for bald eagles, great blue herons, egrets, kestrel, tundra swans and other avian and terrestrial non-game and game species.

The main entrance is off State Route 2 in Ottawa County; the area straddles Lucas and Ottawa counties. The entrance leads to the Sportsmen’s Migratory Bird Center, trails and wildlife beach. Magee Marsh‘s Turtle Creek Access drive is located about 1.5 miles east of the main entrance and hosts a small boat launch and fishing access. Magee Marsh offers seasonal controlled hunting.

The Sportsmen’s Migratory Bird Center features exhibits on the history of the marsh and an extensive collection of mounted birds and mammals that inhabit the marsh. The center is surrounded by a display pond, walking trail and 42-foot tall observation deck that offers views of the marshes and Lake Erie. Additional trails include the Wildlife Beach Trail, the Bird Trail and the Magee/Ottawa Partnership Trail, which connects to the adjacent Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.

In 2008, the management of Crane Creek State Park beach and picnic area was transferred to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. While the site is no longer a swimming beach, it is accessible for fishing and wildlife viewing.
