Using technology to explore the outdoors

EarthCache, or virtual geocaching, is a fun outdoor activity where participants use GPS units to discover natural and geologic features in Ohio’s special places.

	Ohio's physiographic regions Each has its own geological profile and its distinct communities of plants and animals.
	Support Ohio's Scenic Rivers! When you purchase either the brook trout or heron plate, you'll be helping to protect Ohio's 13 state scenic rivers! The plates are available through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and local deputy registrars.

Find a Nature Preserve

Ohio has 134 state nature preserves. A map of 90 preserves open to the public will help you discover Ohio's special places. An additional 44 state nature preserves are open only through a written permit, so that sensitive habitats can be protected more carefully. map

Lawrence Woods to Host NatureCache Event 09/28/09 The final NatureCache hike of 2009 is scheduled for Lawrence Woods State Nature Preserve on Saturday, October 3 at 10 a.m. Clifton Gorge Hosts “Old Clifton Days” Open House 09/22/09 Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve will join the local Old Clifton Days celebration by hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. Sheldon Marsh Hosts NatureCache Event 09/15/09 The next NatureCache hike is scheduled for Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve on Saturday, September 26. ODNR to Present Program on Monarch Butterflies 09/09/09 ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves will be conducting a free educational program on monarch butterflies at Chaparral Prairie State Nature Preserve on Saturday, September 12. ODNR to Offer Youth Deer Gun Hunts at State Nature Preserves 08/18/09 ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves to coordinate special controlled deer hunts including youth hunts at four state nature preserves. Lottery for Special Controlled Deer Hunt at Lake Katharine State Nature Preserve 08/18/09 A random drawing will be held to select participants for a special controlled deer hunt at Lake Katharine State Nature Preserve in Jackson County.
