2009 SANDUSKY RIVER CLEANUP
FINDLAY, OH – The 6th annual Sandusky River Cleanup was held on Monday June 8, 2009 in Fremont. This event was started by Wildlife Officer Brian Bury of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
The ODNR has two critical partners in the annual cleanup. They are OSS Solid Waste Management District and the Sandusky River Watershed Coalition. Sixty Five people helped with the cleanup.
Two dump trucks full of trash were removed from the Sandusky River, which is designated as a State Scenic River. Many of the items collected were food and drink containers. In addition, a toilet, a television, carpeting and other household items were also removed from the banks of the river.
Bury, who started the annual cleanup in 2004, stated that, “It may not sound like fun but after an hour of two of work, when the dump trucks are full, it’s a rewarding feeling.” Bury added that if anyone has any knowledge of illegal dumping to please call him or the Sheriffs Office and report the incident. Violators will be prosecuted.
