Pursuant to Chapter 1507 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC), the Division of Engineering (DOE) [formerly the Office of Chief Engineer] provides professional and technical engineering and related administrative support services required by the ODNR landholding divisions (Parks, Wildlife, Forestry, Watercraft, Natural Areas and Preserves, Civilian Conservation and Water) in improving, utilizing and managing their properties and associated resources.

The Chief Engineer and his staff are the principal representatives of the Director of Natural Resources in all aspects of engineering, planning, designing, contracting, surveying, inspecting, and managing ODNR?s construction projects and capital improvements program, including the new NatureWorks (Issue 1) Program.

Additionally, under Chapter 1507, the DOE provides technical support to land holding Division facilty managers to assist them with operation and maintenance issues; serves as liason with the Ohio Department of Transportation on roadway maintenance issues within ODNR facilities; coordinates Department emergency responses with the Ohio Emergency Management Agency; coordinates Department reviews of Petition Ditch applications under Section 6131.14 of the ORC;and, coordinates various Department activities with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
