XENIA, OH - State wildlife officials have confirmed a localized outbreak of a common white-tailed deer virus in southeastern Highland County’s Brush Creek Township. Educators and others who are interested are encouraged to attend two workshops on Friday, October 12th, 2007. The workshops will take place at the Army Corps of Engineers Visitor’s Center on Wayland Road near the dam of West Branch Reservoir. The new Flying WILD program will be offered in the morning followed by Science & Civics in the afternoon. For the second year deer hunters will have access to prime deer hunting land at the Edge of Appalachia Preserve in Adams County. In a five year agreement signed in 2006 The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC), and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife opened approximately 2,263 acres of land to deer hunting by permit only. AKRON, OH – A young, male black bear estimated by wildlife officials to weigh about 160-pounds was discovered in a roadside ditch by a Columbiana County resident last Thursday. It’s believed the bear was struck by a vehicle while traveling across State Route 45 according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
