COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio hunters killed 9,054 wild turkeys in the first seven days of the spring hunting season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Last year, 10,374 birds were harvested during the season's first week.

RAVENNA, OH- April 22, 2009 marked the 39th anniversary of Earth Day. To commemorate this event, the Ohio Division of Wildlife completed one of its most successful collaborations to date. Fish management personnel and the Mahoning County Green Team joined forces to gather used Christmas trees and cinder blocks across northeast Ohio and introduce them as fish concentration devices into West Branch Reservoir (Portage County).

COLUMBUS, OH - The first peregrine falcon chicks of the 2009 season have hatched at the Terminal Tower nest in downtown Cleveland, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. More hatchlings at other nest sites across the state are expected beginning next week.

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio hunters harvested a preliminary total of 1,712 bearded wild turkeys on the first day of the spring turkey-hunting season, which is open statewide through May 17. Steady rain over most of the state kept the preliminary figure 39 percent below last year's opening day harvest number of 2,768 turkeys, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Angler surveys will once again resume on Ohio’s inland lakes for the summer. “Creel clerks” will be surveying anglers at six lakes in northeast Ohio and 18 lakes around Ohio on weekends from April 25th through July 26th, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife.
