The workshop will take place on Saturday, August 14 and Sunday, August 15, 2010. Attendance is required on both dates to become certified.

COLUMBUS, OH - The 2010 peregrine falcon nesting season is underway in Ohio, with peregrine pairs at 25 sites and eggs being incubated at least three sites in the state—Canton, Dayton and Lakewood.

DAYTON – Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife biologists have confirmed the incubation start at the peregrine falcon nest located atop the Liberty Bank Tower on Second Street in Downtown Dayton. “The pair started incubating three eggs on March 23 and if successful they should hatch around April 24th,” said Diana Malas, wildlife biologist for the ODNR Division of Wildlife. Peregrines typically lay between 3-5 eggs, so there is the potential for one or more to be laid by this pair after incubation has begun.

In addition to the statewide youth turkey hunting days April 19 and 20 on both public and private lands, the Division of Wildlife will be holding a drawing on Saturday, April 10, 2010 for a special, controlled turkey hunting opportunity within the refuge portion of the Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area.

WILMINGTON, OH – Ducks Unlimited (DU) and students from Wilmington High School braved cold weather in late February to help with maintenance on wood duck nesting boxes according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The boxes located at Cowan Lake State Park were in need of yearly repairs and cleaning. Three new boxes were constructed and installed at the south end of the lake as well bringing the total to 25 nest boxes.

COLUMBUS, OH - Public fishing opportunities will be enhanced this spring when more than 80,700 rainbow trout, each measuring 10-13 inches long, are released into 45 Ohio lakes and ponds, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The releases will take place between mid-March and mid-May; anglers are reminded that the daily catch limit for inland lakes is five trout.

Deerfield, OH- Shoreline access along many of Ohio’s inland lakes can be tough to find. Sites that provide good fishing can be even more challenging. But, thanks to a collaborative effort at Berlin Reservoir (Stark/Mahoning/Portage counties), anglers have a stretch of shoreline where they can go to have a great time catching fish. This past Sunday, the Ohio Division of Wildlife, along with the Portage Lakes Bassmasters, refreshed fish attractors that were placed along the Bonner Road access area several years ago.

ATHENS, OH – Increased evidence of bobcats living in Ohio’s southeastern counties continues with the confirmation of 92 sightings by state wildlife officials during 2009, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
