FLUSHING AND MOOREFIELD TOWNSHIPS, OH – A recent agreement between CONSOL Energy, Inc. and the ODNR Division of Wildlife is great news for outdoor enthusiasts. The agreement property straddling the Harrison and Belmont county lines opens 1,500 acres of land for public use. The addition sits adjacent to the 3,500-acre Jockey Hollow Wildlife Area.

COLUMBUS, OH – Two surface water pathways in Ohio’s Muskingum River watershed are considered to be medium-risk routes for the spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS). The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released the Great Lakes Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) today that identified Little Killbuck Creek in Medina County and the Ohio Erie Canal at Akron as potential risks for the movement of ANS, including Asian carp.

COLUMBUS, OH – Beaver and river otter trapping on public land requires a special permit, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Controlled beaver and/or river otter trapping opportunities on 75 wildlife areas, state parks and other publicly managed lands statewide will be awarded through a system of random drawings. Applicants may apply online or print an application and mail it in along with all fees, and applications may also be obtained from district offices.

On July 30-31, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers collected 150 water samples from the Sandusky Bay and Sandusky River. Analysis of these water samples indicated 20 samples out of 150 taken from throughout Sandusky Bay and Sandusky River have tested positive for the presence of silver carp environmental DNA (eDNA).
