FINDLAY, OH – Spaces are still available for adults, groups, or conservation clubs who have a sincere interest in taking kids fishing and want to become certified fishing instructors, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. A free workshop is available on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will take place at Wildlife District Two, 952 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840.

Columbus, OH- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife would like to remind hunters to wear a Full Body Safety Harness (FBSH) and use a climbing safety strap whenever their feet leave the ground.  Tree stands (elevated platforms), are one of the most popular pieces of equipment used by deer hunters in Ohio and nationwide.  However, due to human error and/or equipment failure, the number of debilitating or fatal injuries resulting from their use is higher than it should be.  Statistically, one out of three hunters will fall from a tree stand at some point in his or her hunting career.  Given that statistic it is imperative that the proper safety gear be used--and used correctly.

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio hunters should begin preparing for the hunting seasons of some of the state’s most popular game species with ring-necked pheasant, cottontail rabbit and bobwhite quail. COLUMBUS, OH – Two surface water pathways in Ohio’s Muskingum River watershed are considered to be medium-risk routes for the spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS). The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released the Great Lakes Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) today that identified Little Killbuck Creek in Medina County and the Ohio Erie Canal at Akron as potential risks for the movement of ANS, including Asian carp.

COLUMBUS, OH – Beaver and river otter trapping on public land requires a special permit, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Controlled beaver and/or river otter trapping opportunities on 75 wildlife areas, state parks and other publicly managed lands statewide will be awarded through a system of random drawings. Applicants may apply online or print an application and mail it in along with all fees, and applications may also be obtained from district offices.
