FINDLAY, OH – Interested waterfowl hunters are invited to participate in several controlled hunting opportunities at the Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area.  The first is a lottery card drawing for the opening day of the Teal/Early Goose season.  The morning drawing will be for all applicants.  The afternoon drawing will be Youth Only.  Interested applicants need to mail in a 4x6 inch index card with the applicant’s name, address and phone number  to: Wildlife District Two, 952 Lima Ave., Findlay, Ohio 45840.  The drawing in which the card is to be entered should be designated at the top (Youth Teal or Adult Teal).  Post cards need to be postmarked by August Read More »

FINDLAY, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife will be conducting a bald eagle banding on Tuesday June 2, 2009 at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge in Ottawa County. This event is open to the public, and offers a great opportunity to see our national symbol up close. This was originally scheduled for May 28, 2009. That event was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Huron, Ohio – It’s time to turn around the Lake Erie watershed ~ it’s time for Coastweeks 2008. Last year, over 1100 volunteers plucked over 25,000 pounds of trash from the beaches, tributaries and underwater muck along 32 miles of Lake Erie shores. Food wrappers and beverage containers account for most of the trash including used auto parts, appliances and many other unwanted and peculiar items. Read More »

The cases of seven Defiance County poachers charged with 56 wildlife violations has drawn to a conclusion. The subjects were sentenced on April 10, 2008 in the Defiance Municipal Court. The Honorable Judge John Rohrs III sentenced the subjects to a combined total of over $17,000 in fines, court costs and restitution. Hunting privileges were also suspended for a combined total of 33 years, according to Defiance City Law Director, David Lands. Read More »

COLUMBUS, OH - Staff from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife, in conjunction with researchers from The Ohio State University, will continue research on walleye movements during this year's spring spawning runs in Sandusky River and Bay. A joint project between the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA), Division of Solid and Infectious Waste Management, Scrap Tire Management Unit resulted in 1,500 abandoned tires being removed from the Meilke Road Savanna Wildlife Area in SpencerTownship, Lucas County. FINDLAY, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife is pleased to announce the dedication of the James Donnell Konkel Wetland at the Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area. The dedication will take place on Thursday November 8, 2007 at 3:30 P.M. This 40-acre complex of wetlands and grasslands was restored by breaking drain tiles and excavating seven shallow potholes. The mitigation of a 1993 diesel fuel spill in Indiana that affected a Williams County, Ohio stream has finally been concluded. Fish Creek was severely affected killing off invertebrates, mussels, fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds. An oil pipeline burst causing 30,000 gallons of fuel to spill into Fish Creek.
