COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio deer hunters have donated more than 54,800 pounds of venison to local food banks through the 2008-09 deer hunting season, according to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

ATHENS, OH – One hundred-five black bear sightings were reported in 21 Ohio counties last year, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.  Of that number, state wildlife personnel confirmed 38 of those sightings, a similar count to the 39 confirmed sightings in 2007.

COLUMBUS, OH – A Bellefontaine resident will not be participating in Ohio’s hunting opportunities for the next four years, following his conviction on multiple state wildlife violations.  Charles “Joe” J. Wilson was found guilty of seven wildlife violations in the Bellefontaine Municipal Court, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Angler surveys will once again resume on Ohio’s inland lakes for the summer. “Creel clerks” will be surveying anglers at six lakes in northeast Ohio and 18 lakes around Ohio on weekends from April 25th through July 26th, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife.

ATHENS, OH – Increased evidence of bobcats living in Ohio’s southeastern counties continues with the confirmation of 65 sightings by state wildlife officials during 2008, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. CINCINNATI, OH – The Southwest Ohio Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife will donate venison and other wild game to needy families in eight southwest Ohio counties. The donation will take place at Mueller Roofing, 400 E. Wyoming Ave., Cincinnati OH 45215. A time of 12:00 noon has been set for the donation. The donations will be distributed in Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland and Warren counties.

COLUMBUS, OH - Public fishing opportunities will be enhanced this spring when more than 80,000 rainbow trout, each measuring 10 to 13-inches long, are released into 45 Ohio lakes and ponds, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The releases will take place between mid March and mid-May; anglers are reminded that the daily catch limit for inland lakes is five trout.
