COLUMBUS, OH –The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife encourages all Ohio white-tailed deer hunters and those with an interest in deer hunting to take a survey at wildohio.com. The survey will be available through mid-April.

AKRON, OH – The ODNR Division of Wildlife will offer special opportunities for young hunters seeking wild turkeys this spring. In addition to the statewide youth turkey hunting days April 19 and 20 on both public and private lands, the Division of Wildlife will be holding a drawing on Saturday, April 10, 2010 for a special, controlled turkey hunting opportunity within the refuge portion of the Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area.

            WILMINGTON, OH – Ducks Unlimited (DU) and students from Wilmington High School braved cold weather in late February to help with maintenance on wood duck nesting boxes according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.  The boxes located at Cowan Lake State Park were in need of yearly repairs and cleaning.  Three new boxes were constructed and installed at the south end of the lake as well bringing the total to 25 nest boxes.

HILLSBORO, OH – Two men received restitution costs and fines in Hillsboro Municipal Court for  wildlife violations including taking deer in a closed season and providing false information to a check station according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

COLUMBUS, OH - Public fishing opportunities will be enhanced this spring when more than 80,700 rainbow trout, each measuring 10-13 inches long, are released into 45 Ohio lakes and ponds, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The releases will take place between mid-March and mid-May; anglers are reminded that the daily catch limit for inland lakes is five trout.

Deerfield, OH- Shoreline access along many of Ohio’s inland lakes can be tough to find. Sites that provide good fishing can be even more challenging. But, thanks to a collaborative effort at Berlin Reservoir (Stark/Mahoning/Portage counties), anglers have a stretch of shoreline where they can go to have a great time catching fish. This past Sunday, the Ohio Division of Wildlife, along with the Portage Lakes Bassmasters, refreshed fish attractors that were placed along the Bonner Road access area several years ago.

ATHENS, OH – One hundred-nineteen black bear sightings were reported in Ohio last year, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.  Of that number, state wildlife personnel confirmed 51 of those sightings, an increase compared to the 38 confirmed sightings in 2008.

ATHENS, OH – Increased evidence of bobcats living in Ohio’s southeastern counties continues with the confirmation of 92 sightings by state wildlife officials during 2009, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The reports show an increase from the 65 verified sightings in 2008.
