Columbus, OH- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife would like to remind hunters to wear a Full Body Safety Harness (FBSH) and use a climbing safety strap whenever their feet leave the ground.  Tree stands (elevated platforms), are one of the most popular pieces of equipment used by deer hunters in Ohio and nationwide.  However, due to human error and/or equipment failure, the number of debilitating or fatal injuries resulting from their use is higher than it should be.  Statistically, one out of three hunters will fall from a tree stand at some point in his or her hunting career.  Given that statistic it is imperative that the proper safety gear be used--and used correctly.

Columbus, OH- Don’t wait until the last minute.  Visit one of the public shooting ranges operated by Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife to ensure you are ready for hunting season. There are several ranges located around the state, allowing hunters the opportunity to perfect their shooting skills. Three central Ohio counties (Delaware, Fayette and Licking) offer rifle, pistol, shotgun and archery ranges.

Columbus, OH- Thanks to a 2011 graduate of Upper Arlington High School (UAHS) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife, fish at Antrim Lake will have new habitat below the surface.  On Thursday, July 19th at 10 a.m., ODNR’s Division of Wildlife in cooperation with Columbus Parks and Recreation Department will be placing “spider blocks” into Antrim Lake.

 The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. will host its annual youth fishing event on Thursday, July 12th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Whetstone Park in Columbus.  Approximately 100 youths, who are participants in Columbus Recreation and Parks summer programs, are expected to attend this event.

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife stocked over 20,000 hybrid striped bass in Kiser Lake on June 6th.  Officials are hopeful that annual stockings will provide “fish of a lifetime” catches in coming years.

COLUMBUS, OH - Anglers visiting Punderson Lake, Geauga County, and Antrim Park Lake, Franklin County will get their final chance at catching large, “broodstock” brown and rainbow trout later this month. COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the Division of Wildlife will hold a public drawing on Saturday, September 17, 2011 for a chance for youth hunters to archery hunt for deer within a specially designated area of Deer Creek State Park.  The hunt will occur during the regular Archery Deer Season on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16, 2011.  All youths age 17 and under are eligible to participate in the archery deer hunt.

COLUMBUS, OH – Deer gun hunting opportunities on Transportation Research Center (TRC) managed properties near Marysville, Ohio have been discontinued for the 2010-11 Deer Hunting Season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.  This includes the Youth Deer Gun, Statewide Deer Gun (including the bonus weekend) and Statewide Muzzleloader deer hunting seasons.

COLUMBUS, OH – A South Charleston resident will not be participating in Ohio’s hunting opportunities for the next three years, following his conviction on multiple state wildlife violations.  Larry C. Brown Jr., 45, was found guilty of two wildlife violations and one felony in the Champaign County Common Pleas Court, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
