Bristol Middle School Starts New Archery Program
Whitetails Unlimited and ODNR Division of Wildlife provide funds for new Archery in the Schools Program
BRISTOLVILLE, OH - Bristol Middle School is the latest school involved in the National Archery in the Schools Program, and the media is invited to view the program this Friday, April 17 at 9:00 a.m.
Enter the main entrance of the middle school at 1845 Greenville Road in Bristolville and check in, then proceed to the class in the varsity gym. Please arrive early enough to be in place by 8:50 a.m. The school contact phone number is (330) 889-3882.
Funds to help establish Bristol Middle School’s NASP came from the Mosquito Creek Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited and the ODNR Division of Wildlife.
“Whitetails Unlimited is proud to expend our project dollars from our annual fundraising dinner to support the National Archery in the Schools Program in Bristolville,” said Denny Malloy, WTU’s Ohio field director. “We have funded two schools locally (Bristol and Badger), and hope to introduce many more schools in the Mahoning Valley to this fantastic program. Children will remember this activity as a highlight of their school year, and many will take up archery as a lifelong hobby after their experience with NASP in gym class.”
The $2,500 ($1,500 from WTU and $1,000 from ODNR) made purchasing the equipment possible, and teachers were trained by Division of Wildlife under the NASP protocol. All instruction is conducted by certified instructors, and safety is a primary component of the national program. Introducing the program at the Bristol school was approved by principal, the superintendent, and school board. The NASP’s core content covers archery history, safety, technique, equipment, mental concentration, core strengthening physical fitness and self-improvement. Before presenting the 2-week archery course to students, teachers must successfully complete an 8-hour Archery Instructor Training Program. Equipment used is state-of-the art and designed to fit every student, including left-handed students.
Whitetails Unlimited chapters have been very active in providing funds for NASP across the nation.
