Vern Essi Marsh Dedication
FINDLAY, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife is pleased to announce the dedication of the Vern Essi Marsh addition to the Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area in Sandusky County. Located in the heart of the Lake Erie Marshes, the wetland will add to the already quality habitat at the 3200 acre wildlife area. The dedication will be November 12th at 2:30 P.M. This is in conjunction with the Ducks Unlimited (DU) Partnership Event.
This 162-acre marsh will provide additional benefit to wetland species using the Lake Erie and Sandusky Bay areas. Framed by woodlands and other wetlands, this project will improve habitat for breeding and migrating Canada geese, mallards, wood ducks, and blue-winged teal. Many other species of waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds, wading birds, furbearers and the growing bald eagle populations will benefit from this project. This marsh will compliment the surrounding public and private marshes that have been conserved in this unique area of Northwest Ohio.
This project was funded by the Ohio Division of Wildlife, National Coastal Wetland Conservation Grant Program from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ducks Unlimited, The Fremont Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and the Erie, Ottawa, Sandusky Chapter of Pheasants Forever.
The Vern Essi dedication site can be reached from U.S. Route 6 by turning north onto County Road 265. County Road 265 is located just west of Raccoon Creek. Follow County Road 265 north and west approximately 1 mile. The dedication site will be on the left before County Road 232
