ATHENS, OH – Public drawings will be conducted on December 10 and 14 to issue special permits to trap beaver and river otter on public areas in southeastern Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. 
 
The number of permits and locations for trapping are subject to change before the drawing. For each of the following drawings, trappers are reminded to arrive early. Trappers must be present to participate.
 
December 10, 2009 at 6:00pm. Division of Wildlife Athens Office, 360 East State Street, Athens, Ohio45701, (740-589-9930). 
Drawings will be conducted for the following state forest; two permits each for trap Zaleski, Perry and one permit each at Blue Rock and at Shawnee State Forest. State Parks that will offer permit opportunities include two permits at Burr Oak and one permit each for Strouds Run, Forked Run, Jackson Lake and Lake Alma State Park. Wildlife Areas offering trapping permits include; one permit each for Waterloo, Clouse Lake, O’Dowd, Fox Lake, Crown City, Ross Lake, Tycoon, Wellston and Broken ARO wildlife areas. Two permits will be issued for the Cooper Hollow Wildlife Area. Trapping opportinites on the Wayne National Forest include one permit for the Athens Unit, two permits for the Marietta Unit and six permits for the Ironton unit.
 
December 14, 2009 at 6:00pm. Salt Fork Wildlife Area, 67656 Salt Fork Headquarters Road, Lore City, Ohio43775, (740-489-5021). 
Drawings will be held for permits to trap Salt Fork Wildlife Area, CONSOL Energy Powhatan Point Wildlife Management Area and Egypt Valley Wildlife Area. The number of permits available to trap those areas will be determined at the drawing. 
 
December 14, 2009 at 6:00pm. Woodbury Wildlife Area, 23371 SR 60 South, Warsaw, Ohio43844, (740-824-3211). 
These areas will have a split trapping season. Drawings will be held for three permits to trap Woodbury Wildlife Area, two permits for Dillon Wildlife Area, one permit each for Tri-Valley and Simco Wildlife Area through January 31, 2008.
Drawings will be held for three permits to trap Woodbury Wildlife Area, two permits for Dillon Wildlife Area, one permit each for Tri-Valley and Simco Wildlife Area beginning February 1 through the end of the trapping season.
 
Ohio's beaver-trapping season opens statewide December 26, 2009 and closes February 28, 2010. The trapping season for river otter will open in select counties in Ohio beginning December 26 and closing February 28, 2010.
