MERCER WILDLIFE AREA’S SPECIAL TURTLE TRAPPING DRAWING
Trappers have chance to enter drawing for permit only trapping
CELINA, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife’s Mercer Wildlife Area is hosting a one-time drawing Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. for turtle trapping in the Mercer Wildlife Area. Participants must register prior to 11:00 a.m. and show a valid 2010-2011 fishing license.
“Participants should arrive at the Mercer Wildlife Area Headquarters at 10:45 a.m. to allow enough time to register,” advised Bruce Terrill, wildlife area manager. “We will begin the drawing promptly at ll: 00 a.m.”
Participation in this drawing is limited to adults age 16 and over. Only one trapper will be selected. The chosen trapper may designate an assistant to help him or her. If the designated trapper is under 18 years of age they must be accompanied by an adult. The drawing will be held at the Mercer Wildlife Area Headquarters on State Route 703, 1/3 mile east of State Route 127 in Mercer County.
Only snapping turtles may be trapped using walk in mesh type live traps. All other species of turtles must be released unharmed. All other turtle trapping regulations apply as stated in the current fishing regulation digest.
A non-transferable letter permit will be mailed to the drawing winner. The permit is valid from June 27 through July 11, 2010. The designated trapper must meet with the area manager prior to starting for more detailed instructions.
