Free Deer Management Short Course in Holmes County
Event is open to the public; pre-register to win prizes
 
MILLERSBURG, OH  - Are you a landowner, a deer hunter or a wildlife professional? If so, plan to attend the “Farmer and Hunter Quality Deer Management Cooperative Shortcourse” on Saturday, July 24, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at West Holmes High School in Millersburg. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), this course will provide proven and recommended techniques and plans for farmers, hunters and others who wish to reduce deer crop damage, balance sex ratios and improve landowner-hunter relationships.
 
A partnership between the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) and ODNR’s  Division of Wildlife, the morning session of this course will focus on hunter-landowner relationships – specifically the development of deer management cooperatives, along with an overview of HuntOhioFarms.com, Ohio’s attempt to link hunters and landowners with a web-based “match” program.
 
After a free lunch provided by the QDMA, attendees will hear from speakers on a number of management topics including antler growth and genetics, culling and hunter management.  A question and answer session will be held at the end of the day.  
 
Those who pre-register by July 19 will be eligible to win prizes.
