SOUTH CHARLESTON MAN CONVICTED OF VIOLATING HUNTING LAWS
COLUMBUS, OH – A South Charleston resident will not be participating in Ohio’s hunting opportunities for the next three years, following his conviction on multiple state wildlife violations.  Larry C. Brown Jr., 45, was found guilty of two wildlife violations and one felony in the Champaign County Common Pleas Court, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Wildlife Officer Jeff Tipton was contacted by a concerned citizen during the 2009 statewide deer gun season.  The caller stated that the driver of a camouflage-colored SUV had shot at deer from the vehicle while stopped on the road.  Officer Tipton was already in the area, but also asked local law enforcement officials to be on the lookout for the vehicle.  Mechanicsburg Officer Chris Culler was able to stop the vehicle soon after, and he and Officer Tipton identified the driver as Larry C. Brown Jr.

Brown was found guilty by a jury of his peers on two wildlife convictions of hunting deer from a public roadway and hunting deer by the aid of a motor vehicle.  He was also found guilty of a felony of having weapons while under disability.  Common Pleas Court Judge Roger Wilson sentenced Brown to four years in prison, ordered him to pay a $500 fine, and imposed a three year revocation of his hunting privileges.  The court is also seeking forfeiture of the vehicle and shotgun used in the incident.

Brown has been a chronic wildlife violator with more than five prior arrests for hunting violations.

The Division of Wildlife encourages anyone who is aware of a possible violation of wildlife laws to call the Turn In a Poacher (TIP) line at 1-800-POACHER. Callers can remain anonymous.
