2010 SPECIAL TRAPPING DRAWING
KILLDEER PLAINS WILDLIFE AREA


A one-time drawing will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. for trapping in the Wildlife Refuge on the Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area.

  • Participation in this drawing is limited to adults age 18 and older.  The chosen trapper may designate an assistant to assist.  Adults are encouraged to choose a youth as an assistant.
  • All participants must register prior to 6:30 p.m., and must show a valid 2009 or 2010 Ohio Furtakers Permit.  Plan on being at the Killdeer Plains Check station by 6:00 p.m.
  • No one may enter the refuge for inspection prior to receiving a permit.
  • The drawing will be held at the Killdeer Plains Check Station, located at 19100 C.H. 115; Harpster, OH 43323 (1-1/2 miles south of State Route 294 in Wyandot County).
  • Registration forms will be completed by the trapper and placed in a drum.  As these forms are drawn, that trapper must select a unit to trap.  There are nine available units in the refuge.  A letter permit will be mailed to the participant, and further instructions will be given by the Area Supervisor. 
  • The permit will be valid for portions of the trapping season, with some restrictions on times.  The units to be trapped, starting dates and segments are as follows:
UNITS 1, 1A, and 7: November 29 to December -17, 2010
January 18 – February 28, 2011
UNITS 3, 3A and 5: November 10 – December 6, 2010
December 7, 2010 - February 28, 2011
UNITS 4, 6 and 8: November 10 - December 6, 2010 (Traps may only be set and
checked after 12:30 p.m. daily.)
December 7, 2010 - February 28, 2011 (Traps may only be set
and checked after 12:30 p.m. daily.)

  • Permits are not transferable.  All trappers that are chosen must meet with the area manager for specific instructions prior to the start of the trapping activity.
  • Reports of weekly catches must be received at the area headquarters prior to 7:00 a.m. each Monday.
  • Area managers reserve the authority to assign alternates to a unit if primary trappers are not obeying trapping rules and regulations.  Also, the Area Supervisor may change the length of the permit as situations arise.
  • Controlled deer hunts will be conducted November 30, December 1 & 13, 2010, and January 8, 15 and 22, 2011 in the controlled trapping area.  Trappers will be permitted to conduct daily trapping activities on these dates.
  • Boats with electric motors may be used.
  • NOTE:  It is unlawful for any person to buy, sell, trade or barter any Division of Wildlife issued controlled hunting, fishing or trapping permit.
