Rainbow Trout to be Released at Davis Lake
For the first time, public fishing will be permitted at Davis Lake

ST.MARYS, OH - Approximately 500 rainbow trout, measuring 10- to 11-inches in length, will be released into Davis Lake on October 22, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

The 13-acre Davis Lake is owned by the City of St. Marys and is located at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center, 15500 River Rd. St. Marys, OH 45885. Hours of operation will be during daylight only. A fishing license is required. Fishing will be from the shoreline only, no boats will be allowed. The statewide bag limit of 5 trout per day will apply at Davis Lake.

The City of St. Marys wanted to provide local residents an alternative fishing location because of recent water quality advisories at Grand Lake St. Marys. The Division of Wildlife and the City of St. Marys have entered into a formal fishing agreement that allows public fishing for the first time at Davis Lakes. In return, the Division has committed to provide a fish management plan for the lake that includes occasional fish stocking. The trout will be provided by the London State Fish Hatchery and are scheduled to arrive between 11am - noon.

The catchable trout stocking program targets small inland waters, including state and community park lakes, as well as other easy-access lakes throughout the state. Anglers age 16 and older must have an Ohio fishing license. Fishing licenses can be purchased online at wildohio.com and at any of the many license vendors around the state. Ohio residents who were born on or before December 31, 1937 may obtain a free license from any license vendor or from the Division's Web site.

The 2010 annual resident fishing license costs $19 and is valid through February 28, 2011. A one-day fishing license may be purchased for $11. The one-day license may also be redeemed for credit toward purchase of an annual fishing license during the same license year.
