Auburn Early Learning Center Named A “Wild School Site”
Award recognizes efforts by school communities who enhance wildlife habitat and outdoor learning experiences

CHAGRIN FALLS (AUBURN TOWNSHIP), OH –  In a ceremony attended by family and friends on Saturday, Auburn Early Learning Center was officially dedicated as an official WILD School Site according to ODNR Division of Wildlife. The school is the 123rd site dedicated in Ohio and the 4th in Geauga County.

The Center’s students and school community have completed several outdoor projects which benefit wildlife and their habitats. Projects include creating a nature trail which allows students easy access for studying the outdoors. Along the nature trail, students have assisted in erecting feeding, watering, and nesting stations for local wildlife, specifically birds and butterflies. Through this program, learning is brought to life by reconnecting children to the outside world while teaching everyday subjects such as art, literature, math, and science.

As a result of the newly established WILD School Site, the Center is offering summer day camps which will teach children ages three to nine about wildlife and nature. Each week is a different topic starting June 11 and continuing through August 10. Contact Auburn Early Learning Center for details or to schedule a visit by calling (440) 543-2125.

The WILD School Sites program is considered an action extension of the national Project WILD program. Any school property used by students, teachers, and the school community as a place to learn about and benefit from wildlife and the environment can be certified. The sites function within the premise that every school, regardless of size and location, can provide outdoor educational opportunities that can and should be part of an integrated environmental education program. WILD School Sites that demonstrate program development and site enhancement consistent with the premises outlined in this program are eligible for certification as an official Ohio WILD School Site.
