BEAVER TRAPPING PERMITS FOR PUBLIC AREAS AVAILABLE
ATHENS, OH – Public drawings will be conducted on December 10, and 16, 2008 to issue special permits to trap beaver and river otter on public areas in southeastern Ohio according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
The number of permits and locations for trapping may be subject to change before the drawing. For each of the following drawings, trappers are reminded to arrive early. Trappers must be present to participate.
December 16, 2008 at 6:30pm. Cooper Hollow Wildlife Area, 5403 CH&D Road, Oak Hill, Ohio 45656 phone 740.682.7524. Drawings will be held for permits to trap Cooper Hollow Wildlife Area East (two permits), Cooper Hollow Wildlife Area West (two permits), Ross Lake Wildlife Area (two permits), Crown City Wildlife area (two permits), Tycoon Wildlife Area (two permits), Wellston Wildlife Area (two permits), Flint Run/Broken ARO Wildlife Area (two permits), one permit for Shawnee State Forest (one permit), and the Wayne National Forest Ironton Unit (three permits).
December 16, 2008 at 6:00pm. Salt Fork Wildlife Area, 67656 Salt Fork Headquarters Road, Lore City, Ohio 43775, phone 740.489.5021. Drawings will be held for permits to trap Salt Fork Wildlife Area, CONSOL Energy Powhatan Point Wildlife Management Area and Egypt Valley Wildlife Area. The number of permits at those areas will be determined at the drawing. There may also be permits available for Wayne National Forest Marietta Unit at this drawing.

Drawings will be held to issue permits to trap in the Zaleski State Forest (three permits), Burr Oak State Park (four permits), Strouds Run State Park (one permit), Forked Run State Park (one permit), Lake Alma State Park (one permit), Waterloo Wildlife Area (one permit), Clouse Lake Wildlife Area (one permit), Veto Lake Wildlife Area (one permit), Fox Lake Wildlife Area (one permit), Perry State Forest (one permit) and Wayne National Forest Athens Unit (two permits).
December 16, 2008 at 6:00pm. Woodbury Wildlife Area, 23371 SR 60 South, Warsaw, Ohio 43844, phone 740.824.3211. Drawings will be held to issue permits to trap Woodbury Wildlife Area (six permits), Dillon Wildlife Area (four permits), Tri-Valley Wildlife Area (two permits), Powelson Wildlife Area (two permits), and Simco Wildlife Area (two permits). Each of these areas will have a split season trapping permit. The first set of permits drawn will be valid from December 26 through January 31, 2009; the second set of permits drawn will be valid from February 1 through February 28, 2009.
Ohio's beaver-trapping season opens statewide December 26, 2008 and remains open through February 28, 2009. The trapping season for river otter is open in select counties in Ohio beginning December 26 and closing February 28, 2008.
