Agricultural Pollution Abatement Soil Contact Kevin Elder, 614-265-6617. Responding to complaints concerning cropland erosion/sedimentation, woodland erosion/sedimentation, and livestock manure runoff. Provision of state cost sharing for practices addressing these sources.
Cave Protection Nat. Areas Contact Natural Areas & Preserves, 614-265-6453. Formulation of policies and plans for the identification and protection of caves.
Endangered Plant Law Nat. Areas Contact Natural Areas & Preserves, 614-265-6453. Establish and maintain list of endangered and threatened native plants; promulgate rules restricting their taking, possessing, transportation, and commercial sale, per Chapter 1518 ORC. List updated every two years.
Forest Health Management/Monitoring Forestry Contact Dan Balser, 614-265-7053. Assessment of statewide forest health conditions reported to U.S. Forest Service; assistance provided to public and private forest landowners on major forest health problems.
Ginseng Management Wildlife Contact 614-265-6315. Regulating ginseng production so that harvesting is not detrimental to the survival of the species. Coordination of dealer permits and export certificates.
Ground Water Investigation Mineral Resources Contact Regional Field Office
Investigation of ground water contamination or water well dewatering problems when oil and gas or mining operations are the suspected cause.
Manure & Nutrient Management Soil Contact Tammie Brown, 614-265-6684. Training, career development and demonstrations to address manure pollution problem areas identified by SWCDs. Grants available to and through SWCDs.
Natural Areas and Preserves Nat. Areas Contact Natural Areas & Preserves, 614-265-6453. Acquire, dedicate and accept donations of public and privately owned lands as nature preserves.
Nonpoint Source Pollution Management Soil Contact Jill Evans, 614-265-6637. Development of statewide strategies and programs for controlling polluted runoff and protecting water resources.
Ohio Coastal Management REALM Contact Sandusky's Coastal Services Center, toll-free 888-644-6267. Education, coordination, and assistance for a broad range of issues including Lake Erie coastal resource management, protection and development, identifying coastal erosion and flood hazards, protecting shipwrecks and underwater cultural resources. Partnership with state, local, federal, regional agencies; federal partner National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Ohio Natural Landmarks Nat. Areas Contact Natural Areas & Preserves, 614-265-6453. Promotion of the preservation of significant natural areas containing distinctive ecological or geological features of state or national significance and worthy of special recognition. Program does not provide protection, only recognition.
Ohio Wetland Habitat Stamp Wildlife Contact 614-265-6300. Annual waterfowl art competition for a waterfowl hunting permit stamp. Program generates revenue for wetlands conservation.
Osprey Reintroduction Wildlife Ongoing program to reestablish osprey in selected habitat. Contact District Wildlife biologist, 614-644-3925.
Peregrine Falcon Reintroduction Wildlife Ongoing program to reestablish peregrine falcons by creating nest sites in Ohio cities using tall buildings as habitat. Contact District Wildlife biologist, 614-644-3925.
Scenic Rivers Nat. Areas Administration of the preservation and protection of Ohio's 20 state scenic rivers included within the scenic rivers system. Also actively participates with the Stillwater River Watershed Partners, Big Darby Creek Partners, Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Grand River Partners, and the Little Miami Partners. All are public and private agencies and private organizations united to protect these rivers and their watersheds.
Trumpeter Swan Reintroduction Wildlife Captive rearing and stocking to reintroduce trumpeter swans into selected habitat; in partnership with The Wilds and the Cleveland Zoo. Contact Division of Wildlife, 614-265-6300.
