This project will extend the East Harbor and Kelleys Island naturalist seasons resulting in an increased focus on Lake Erie wildlife assets through the migratory bird season, offering more programs throughout the naturalist season, and additional Nature Center hours and live displays.

This project will protect 7.8 acres of critical Lake Erie shore along Middle Bass Island and its inland habitat to sustain and enhance significant plant and animal species. The project will also provide the opportunity to expand public access to the Lake Erie shore and to contribute to the local tourism economy opportunities for Island nature-tourism in partnership with other established public areas on Middle Bass Island.

Meadowbrook Marsh Public Access Trail and Boardwalk

An ADA compliant 900-foot long by 8-foot wide principal trail that will lead from the parking area to the pond and an 8-foot wide by 80-foot long ADA compliant ramped boardwalk at the end of the trail at the edge of the pond will be constructed. These improvements will enable fishing access, waterfowl viewing and picnic capability.

Acquisition of 30 acres partly located in the area known as Meadowbrook. Approximately half the area is made up of wetlands and located in a 100-year floodplain. This acquisition will preserve wildlife habitat, a natural area and open space. This area is adjacent to 33.5 acres owned by Danbury Township.
