A small earthquake occurred on October 18 at 6:22 p.m. EDT beneath the central basin of Lake Erie about 40 km northwest of Kelleys Island, 65 km north of the south shore of Lake Erie in Lorain County, and just south of the Canadian border. The event was recorded and located by the Geological Survey of Canada. No previous earthquakes have been recorded from this area of Lake Erie.
