Coastal Resources Advisory Council
Mission Statement
To advise the Director of ODNR on the Ohio Coastal Management Program and to promote, protect, enhance, and encourage the wise use of Lake Erie’s coastal resources and its watershed.
The Coastal Resources Advisory Council is defined in Ohio Revised Code Section 1506.12 to
- Advise the director on coastal management laws.
- Recommend to the director such policies and legislation as are necessary to preserve, protect, develop, and restore or enhance the coastal resources of the state;
- Review and make recommendations to the director on the development of policies, plans and programs for long-term, comprehensive coastal resource management, including, without limitation, the coastal management program document.
- Recommend to the director ways to enhance cooperation among governmental agencies.

Membership
- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was accepting applications for membership on the Coastal Resources Advisory Council through November 1, 2007. The application period is closed. New members have been appointed to council.

Mr. Althaus is a PADI Master Scuba Instructor and the Owner and Operator of New Wave Dive Center in Port Clinton. The New Wave Snorkel and Scuba Center is a complete professional PADI 5-Star Dive Center and is entering its 18th year of serving Northwestern Ohio. Mr. Althaus has been a member of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Underwater Response Team since 1991. He is also the dive coordinator and sponsor of the annual Ohio Coast Weeks Put-in-Bay Underwater Clean up, a 15-year volunteer swim instructor for the Learn to Swim Program at Port Clinton’s Jefferson Elementary School, and a member of the Bay Area Divers Scuba Club. As a Senior Planner of the Lake County Planning Commission, Mr. Boyd examines land development and zoning patterns and trends, assists the general public with GIS requests, floodplain determinations, topographic data and zoning/subdivision inquires. He has worked closely with Leroy and Painesville townships’ Comprehensive Plans and is the chairman of the Lake County Coastal Plan Committee. Mr. Boyd is a member of the Ohio Planning Conference, the American Planning Association, the Ohio State University Extension Board and the Ohio State University Sea Grant Committee. Ms. Brookes is the Sandusky River Watershed Coordinator and is employed by the WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc. As coordinator, Ms. Brookes works with federal, state and local agencies, and citizen’s to improve and protect the water quality of the Sandusky River and Bay watershed. Mr. Clemons has 35 years of experience in the retail marine industry on Sandusky Bay. He works in the Marine Sales and Service Department at Clemons Boats, Inc. (www.clemonsboats.com). Mr. Denbow is the director of water and ecological resources for URS Corporation’s Cleveland Office. A littoral landowner, he is the former executive director of the Chagrin River Watershed Partners and a current member at-large on the Chagrin River Watershed Partners Board of Trustees. Eric Dodrill

Mr. Dodrill has been employed as District Director of the Erie Soil and Water Conservation District since 2001. Previously, he worked for Perkins Township (Erie County) as township engineer after eight years in private engineering in north central Ohio. His experience with the development community, government agencies and growing up on a small farm in rural West Virginia provides a good base to approaching professional challenges.
Mr. Dodrill serves on committees with the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Erie Regional Planning Commission, Erie County Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Erie County Access Management Board of Appeals. A resident of Huron Township, he also enjoys volunteer activities with local watershed groups and his church family, working on do-it-yourself home and landscape projects, outdoor activities, fishing and spending time with his wife, Gail and their two children, Colleen and Alex. Dr. Robert T. Heath

Dr. Heath is a Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of the Water Resources Research Institute at Kent State University. For 36 years Dr. Heath has conducted research on the ecosystem ecology of Lake Erie, Old Woman Creek, the Cuyahoga River and other freshwater ecosystems. Dr. Heath serves on many committees including the Ohio EPA-Source Water Advisory Group, the Great Lakes Aquatic Ecosystem Research Consortium, and the Old Woman Creek Advisory Panel. He is a past-president of the Ohio Academy of Science, and a member of the International Association for Great Lakes Research and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Mr. Kastelic is a Senior Park Planner with Cleveland Metroparks and former Deputy Director of the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission. Mr. Kastelic has more than 36 years of experience in city planning, land use regulation, public management, environmental resource assessment and site analysis. He is a member of the Cuyahoga Valley Communities Council, Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, Ohio Coastal Resource Management Project, Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail Partnership and Dike 14 Environmental Education Collaborative. Mr. Kastelic’s professional memberships include the American Planning Association and the Ohio Planning Conference. Mr. Keenan is a Laboratory Technician for the Ashtabula-based Plasticolors, Inc., where he has worked since 1987. Plasticolors produces pigment dispersions used in many polymers including urethanes, epoxies, acrylic coatings and vinyls. Mr. Keenan received a BS in Mechanical Engineering/Technology from Kent State University in 2000. He was a liscensed Realtor from 1991-2005, has served as an Able Bodied Seaman aboard the U.S.M.S.
