What if you had a piece of land and were planning to invest in planting soybeans or trees? Or in building your dream house or an office complex? Would it matter if the soils were clayey or sandy?

You know it's important to check the soils maps and information before you make your investment.

Such information has been available to the public in soil survey books for most of the state for decades. Now that information is at the fingertips of every citizen. Increased accessibility to soils information can help you make smarter decisions about investments involving real estate.

These decisions can increase business profits and decrease the public’s costs for maintaining healthy soils and clean water.

The Division's Soil Inventory and Evaluation Section, in conjunction with the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service and The Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, is responsible for the correlation, publication, and distribution of soil surveys in Ohio.

The section is committed to giving county soil and water conservation districts the support they need to utilize soils information for conservation.
