DSS and DSI
DSS Demonstration
How to obtain a CD
If you would like a CD of a county's DSS or DSI, contact your local office. The cost of each CD is $10.00 plus $3.00 for shipping, for a total cost of $13.00 per CD. For multiple counties, please e-mail dswc@dnr.state.oh.us or call us at 614-265-6878 and include name, address, phone numer and DSS needed.
DSS
- Replaces the hardcopy county soil surveys.
- No web access required
- Can add additional layers (must be in SPS NAD 83)
- Includes soil survey text and tables
- Easy navigation, view, print, and export
- Includes streams, roads and aerial photography
The Digital Soil Survey (DSS) is a product developed to view Ohio soil surveys with a computer. All the information contained in the traditional bound soil surveys is available in the DSS, including the maps.
All the software necessary to view the soil survey and the maps are available on the CD. Due to the large amounts of data on the DSS it is not feasible to distribute via the internet.

DSI
Digital Soil Information (DSI) CDs are also available for each county that have DSS CDs.
DSI CDs contain information similar to the information contained in the Soil Data Mart. The information on a DSI CD may not be as current as the information downloaded from the Soil Data Mart.
