Athens Invasive Plant Demonstration Site
The ODNR District 4 Headquarters in Athens was heavily infested with invasive bush honeysuckle, autumn olive, and privet. Division of Wildlife interns from Hocking College were eager to get outside and do something active and they agreed to assist with removal of these invasive plants on the property.
Interns worked with one or more Division of Forestry employees on each Wednesday in the month of May 2010 to get the invasive plants under control. The interns did the hard work of cutting down the largest shrubs using loppers or pruning saws. They then removed the cut shrub to a brush pile at the back of the property for chipping. The cut stumps were treated with an herbicide by a Forestry employee to prevent re-sprouting. Smaller shrubs were sprayed with a foliar application of the herbicide glyphosate.
Invasive Plant removal is now complete at the ODNR District 4 Headquarters.
