Facilities 1-mile trail Learn more Although small in size, Baker Woods is a high quality old-growth forest remnant. It is named in honor of Lela Mae Baker of Coldwater who donated the property to the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves in 1992. The site has recently been opened to the public for visitation. There are numerous large trees including shagbark and shellbark hickories, bur, swamp white, white and chinquapin oaks, which dominate the forest canopy. Much of this woods is very wet throughout the growing season. Two state-listed species, Muskingum sedge and grove sandwort, ocur here. The best times to visit are in autumn when it is relatively dry and mosquito-free or in early spring as the wildflowers are blooming. Local Directions Located between Buscher and St. Anthony roads northest of Coldwater.
