DREW WOODS
STATE NATURE PRESERVE - 15 ACRES
Main Feature:
Stately oaks and excellent spring wildflowers.
Although only 15 acres in size, Drew Woods is the best remaining old growth woods in this part of Ohio. The canopy is dominated by very large white, swamp white, bur and Shumard's oak as well as by white ash and shagbark hickory.
A few rare species including pumpkin ash, grove sandwort and tiger salamanders have also been documented at this preserve. The woods has a fine display of spring flora.
Location:
Located in Darke County north of Ansonia, follow State Rte 118 north. Proceed west on Brown Rd, then north on Michael Rd and west on Zumbrum Rd. No facilities present. This site is managed by Darke County Park District. For more information, call (937) 548-0165. |
