SWAMP COTTONWOOD - 21 ACRES

Rare swamp cottonwood; good spring wildflowers.
This preserve has one of the best populations in the state of swamp cottonwood, a potentially threatened tree species. The wet depressions support swamp cottonwood, as well as a variety of other interesting wetland plants such as sphagnum moss, poison sumac and highbush blueberry.
The woods surrounding the central wet depression have a variety of ferns and a good spring wildflower display.
Location:
Located approximately, 3 miles southwest of Homerville. Follow U.S. Route 224 west from Homerville 1 mile to Camp Road (Township Road 36); south 1.5 miles to Williams Road (Township Road 79), and west .5 mile to unmarked pull-off area on the south side of Williams Road. No other visitor facilities are present.
