A Few More Chances to "Wear It Ohio!"

The Division of Watercraft started a new life jacket safety awareness campaign at select lakes in May known as Wear It Ohio! A key element of this campaign is a lifejacket loaner program. Over 200 new inflatable lifejackets have been loaned to Ohio boaters who signed a pledge card to wear the lifejacket when they go boating.

Another element of the campaign is promotional items. Teams of Watercraft volunteers and staff interact with boaters during weekend events at select inland lakes. A prize wheel allows boaters to earn a promotional Wear it Ohio! item if they correctly answer a question on boating education. The promotional prizes included campaign T-shirts, foam footballs and flying discs.

There are events June 28 at Portage Lakes, and June 29 at Buck Creek and Salt Fork's Morning Glory ramp. The campaign’s final event is scheduled for July 12 at Portage Lakes, where the action moves to the water: Boaters on the water will have a chance to spin the prize wheel from the Wear It Ohio! pontoon boat.
