FORESTRY LEGACY PROGRAM IN OHIO

Forestry Legacy Program in Ohio
Q.  What is Forest Legacy?
Q.  Why does the State of Ohio want to enter into conservation agreements for working forests with landowners?
Q.  Who can enroll their property into Forest Legacy?
Q.  What is in a “conservation agreement? What would the landowner be agreeing to?
Q.  Is there a minimum acreage or size of the parcel required to enroll?
Q.  If I choose to sell my property in the future, is the new owner bound by forestry legacy conservation agreement?
Q.  Do I have to harvest trees as part of my management plan? When trees are harvested, can I choose to selectively harvest only the ones I wish to harvest?
Q.  I have a small parcel, but it is my deer hunting spot, and has reliably supplied myself and my family with many successful seasons of deer hunting. I very much would like to keep it that way, so, do I still retain all landowner rights of this property? Can I keep the trees my tree-stands are in? Do I keep the right to keep out trespassers? Would there be anyone from the forestry program I would have to allow access to?
Q.  Is it o.k. if I have an oil or gas well on the property? (I presently own all mineral rights) but the oil well is still operational, and I must allow access for the oil company. Would this be a problem?
Q.  I don’t own the mineral rights under my property and I am in an area where strip mining is taking place. Would this be a problem?
Q.  How is the amount of payment to the landowner determined? Is it per acre? How can I find out how much I would be paid if I were to enroll?
Q.  Is it a one time lump sum payment?
Q.  Is the application binding? Can I back out after applying?
Q.  Who pays for the two appraisals?
Q.  How long will it take to get my property enrolled?
