Norway Maple - Acer platanoides
Wooster Planted: 1954
726 Sunrise View Dr. Site: Property Owner's Lawn

The trees are of a typical rounded form and uniform in height and spread. They add considerable beauty and shade to the street as well as to the homeowner's property. Two serious problems associated with Acer platanoides are heavy shade they provide and the shallow root systems that are evident in the detrimental effects seen on the area under the trees.

These Norway Maples have done well. The annual twig extension growth averages 6 to 12 inches per year. One of the keys in this situation is that the plants are in a lawn setting rather than a tree lawn or sidewalk cut. This results in less stress, faster growth and higher survival

Eighty-nine percent of the overall planting survived (8 of 9 trees).
1997 data on the table are based on four trees.
