Small Earthquake in Eastern Lake County, Ohio

A small earthquake at 8:01 a.m. EST frightened a few residents of the North Perry and North Madison area of Lake County on February 1, 2005. The event was recorded by seismic stations of the Geological Survey of Canada in southern Ontario and by northeastern Ohio stations of the Ohio Seismic Network. Several small earthquakes have occurred in this general area, east of Painesville, in recent years. A 3.3-magnitude earthquake on June 30, 2004 was centered very near this small one and was felt throughout much of Lake County. None of these small earthquakes have caused damage. Residents who felt the February 1 earthquake are encouraged to submit a report.
