Installing the A-to-D Board

Important!  Make sure the computer is disconnected from its power source before installing the A-to-D board (Digitizer).

The A-to-D board is installed into one of the open PCI slots in the computer. Follow National Instruments instructions in putting the board into the PCI slot. Also, see the computers owners' manual on accessing the PCI slots since access varies among the Mac G3 and G4 computers.

By convention the A-to-D board is installed in the first available PCI slot next to the video card. In the G3 this is slot 1, in the G4 this is slot 2. If for some reason these slots are occupied by other hardware the remaining open slots can be used. Make sure the slot location of the A-to-D board is noted, as this will be very important when configuring the SeismoGraph software.

Use the National Instruments (NI-DAQ) control panel to see which PCI slot the A-to-D board resides (assuming the NI-DAQ software has been installed). With the NI-DAQ control panel open, look under "Devices" in the drop down menu. The slot number will follow the text field named "Devices:"
