Garmin GPS II+ Receiver Setup

Before starting, if the GPS unit is being used for the first time follow the "INITIALIZING THE RECEIVER" procedure outlined in the owners manual.

Setting Position Format and Units of Measure.

1. Once the receiver has been initialized go to the "MAIN MENU" page. This is accomplished by pressing the "PAGE" button until the "MAIN MENU" page is displayed.
    
2. Scroll to "SYSTEM MENU" menu item.
   Scroll by using the large oval button on the receiver. Pressing the top part of the button to scroll upward, pressing the bottom of the button to scroll down, right side to scroll right, and left to scroll left.
    
3. Press "ENTER."
    
4. The "SETUP MENU" page should be displayed.
    
5. Scroll to the "NAVIGATION" menu item.
    
6. Press "ENTER"
    
7. The "NAV SETUP" page should be displayed.
    
8. Press "ENTER"
    
9. The "POSN:" line should be hi-lited. This is where receiver can be set to display Lat./Long in decimal degrees.
    
10. Press "ENTER" to hi-lite the first letter.
     
11. Scroll through the list of items until "hddd.ddddd" is found.
     
12. Press "ENTER"
     
13. Scroll down to "UNITS" this is where units of measure are set, ie. elevation.
     
14. As was done above set "UNITS" to "METRIC."
     
15. Press "ENTER."
     
16. Press "PAGE" or "QUIT" to go back to the "SETUP MENU" screen.
     
17. Press "PAGE" or "QUIT" to go back to the "MAIN MENU" screen.
