The Ohio Geological Survey has a number of suites of geophysical logs from oil and gas wells (and some of the Survey's core holes) in digital format. All files are in Log ASCII Standard (LAS) format. These LAS-format files are suitable for use in geophysical-log-analysis software systems. The complete collection of digital files is available on CD-ROM for $25.00 per CD, or individual files can be downloaded free directly from the Survey's FTP site. To order the CD, contact the Geologic Records Center, Ohio Geological Survey, 2045 Morse Rd., Bldg. C1, Columbus, OH 43229-6693. Telephone (614) 265-6576. E-mail: . See links below for access to the FTP site.
If you would like to donate LAS files from additional wells to this collection, we would be happy to accept them. To donate files please contact Larry Wickstrom at 614-265-6598, e-mail: . As additional files and data from other wells become available, they will be placed on our FTP site for easy access.
Many of the LAS files at this site are available due to the generosity of the Ohio Chapter of the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) and the Ohio Geological Society. These two professional societies graciously donated the funding necessary to rescue these files from old, 9-track tapes and convert them to the LAS format. We also are grateful to Elite Seismic Processing of Newark, Ohio, for providing the conversion services.
The files on this site are named by the corresponding well's API identifier. If more than one suite of logs per well is available, the API number in the second suite's file name is followed by the abbreviation for the dominant log type in that suite.
Before downloading any LAS files, be sure to read the files named: 00readme.txt and Website_LAS_FILES.xls. The readme file explains the file-naming conventions and the xls file is a spreadsheet listing basic information about each well/LAS file--location, curves in the LAS files, depth intervals, etc.
