EARTHQUAKE EPICENTERS IN OHIO AND ADJACENT AREAS

EG-2 2007, by Micheal C. Hansen

This map depicts the approximate locations of earthquakes that were felt in Ohio or that had instrumental magnitudes of 2.0 or greater. Noninstrumental earthquake locations and magnitudes have been calculated from historical accounts. Because of the paucity of original reports for some earthquakes, noninstrumental locations and magnitudes may be very imprecise. Some border-region earthquakes are depicted on this map as well. The border region is arbitrarily defined as a grid from 38.0° to 43.0° N latitude and 80.0° to 85.5° W longitude. This grid includes most of the small-to-moderate (2.0 magnitude or greater) earthquakes that were beyond the state border but were, or may have been, felt in Ohio.
