These maps depict the configuration and elevation of the bedrock surface as if all unconsolidated sediments had been removed. Some quadrangles have bedrock-topographic contours drawn on a mylar copy of the U.S. Geological Survey topographic base; some quadrangles have bedrock-topographic contours drawn on an overlay; and for some quadrangles the bedrock-topographic contours are photographic enlargements from 1:62,500-scale (1 inch equals about 8 miles) county bedrock-topography maps. These maps depict the changes in elevation of the upper surface (contact) of a bedrock unit in the map area. For most quadrangles, the structure contours are drawn as overlays to the bedrock-geology maps. A given quadrangle may have several structure-contour maps, generally one for each mapped bedrock unit. Contact the Geologic Records Center of the Survey (614-265-6576) for information on which structure-contour maps are available for a particular quadrangle. Each map is $4.00.
