GLACIAL MAPPING
Mapping of the glacial deposits of Ohio is a high priority of the Geologic Mapping and Industrial Minerals Group and dominants the activities of this group. One major goal in this effort is to map in a reconnaissance style the three-dimensional glacial geology of the state. Through a combination of grant funding sources including the STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program of the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. EPA Nonpoint Source Pollution Program, the Geologic Mapping Group has completed 3-D glacial mapping for significant areas in southwest, central, and northeast Ohio.
A second major goal is to map detailed three-dimensional glacial geology in selected areas of the state. The Central Great Lakes Geologic Mapping Coalition through the U.S. Geological Survey funds this effort.
