Public Meetings Slated for Program Offering Aid to Coastal Property Owners Considering Erosion Control
SANDUSKY, OH - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Office of Coastal Management is hosting three public meetings along the Ashtabula County lakeshore as part of the continued efforts to receive input on the Lake Erie Shore Erosion Management Plan.
The Lake Erie Shore Erosion Management Plan (LESEMP) is a voluntary, non-regulatory initiative to aid property owners and communities with the selection of effective erosion control measures. The LESEMP functions by developing regional-scale erosion management plans that incorporate several characteristics of the Ohio coast, including shore and nearshore geology, as well as habitat for myriad species.
Selecting the appropriate type of erosion control measure based on the conditions at a site can offer potential cost savings by extending the life of the erosion control measure and improving its long-term ability to control erosion. When neighbors and communities with similar erosion issues work together to uniformly implement a portion of the regional plan, the likelihood of successful erosion control is increased.
The meetings to gain local perspectives on erosion, which will assist in the development of future recommendations, are scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on:
Wednesday, May 13,at the Conneaut Public Library, 304 Buffalo Street, 440-593-1608
Monday, May 18, at the Geneva Public Library, 860 Sherman Street, 440-466-4521
Tuesday, June 2, at the Ashtabula Public Library, 335 West 44th Street, 440-997-9341
