Frog and Toad Hike at Chaparral Prairie

Natural Areas Discovery Series open to all
 
WEST UNION, OHIO - Explore the jubilant calls of Ohio's amphibians at the next Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Natural Areas Discovery series event. Visitors of all ages are invited to discover these small but vocal residents of Chaparral Prairie State Nature Preserve on Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m.
 
The free program, held rain or shine, will include a naturalist-led hike to learn more about the frogs and toads of Ohio's wetlands. Wet weather footwear and flashlights are recommended for the evening ramble.
 
Chaparral Prairie is an outstanding example of a cedar barren prairie complete with a variety of common and rare wildflowers and butterflies. The Adams County preserve is located at 209 Hawk Hill Road in West Union. GPS coordinates are N38°50.422' W083°34.427'. To learn more about the program, contact 937-544-9750.
 
Sponsored by the ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, the Natural Areas Discovery Series features guided hikes, interpretive activities and outdoor programs. The next event will be Sunday, May 17 at Lou Campbell State Nature Preserve in Lucas County. Children who hike with their families during the special events and throughout the year can receive credit towards the ODNR Explore the Outdoors Hike a Trail activity.
