Wild Edible Plant Program at Davey Woods State Nature Preserve

Natural Areas event fun for the entire family
 
ST PARIS, OH - Visitors to Davey Woods State Nature Preserve will have an opportunity to learn more about edible plants growing in local woodlands at the next Natural Areas Discovery Series event on Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
 
Suitable for the entire family, this evening program features a naturalist-led hike along an easy to moderate trail with some hilly terrain. A variety of edible plants will be identified along the hike, in addition to a brief discussion of preparation techniques for select plants.
 
Located in Champaign County, Davey Woods State Nature Preserve is a 103-acre woodland featuring majestic oaks and tulip trees, excellent spring wildflowers and a 2-mile loop trail. Children who hike with their families during the special event and throughout the year can receive credit towards the Ohio Department of Natural Resouces (ODNR) Explore the Outdoors Hike a Trail activity. Explore the Outdoors is a hands-on family program that gives Ohio children the opportunity to reunite with nature, improve their physical and emotional health and discover the rewards of becoming environmental stewards. Sponsored by the ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, the Natural Areas Discovery Series features scheduled hikes, interpretive activities and an opportunity for visitors to meet preserve staff. Programs are held from April to October. The next events will be held on May 30 at Tinker's Creek in Portage County and Chaparral Prairie in Adams County.
